Benjamin Nicholas - Conductor
Advent at Merton/Delphian - The Sunday Times

This richly varied collection of mainly contemporary music for Advent, most of it directed by Nicholas, is exquisitely sung. At its heart is a sequence of Seven Advent Antiphons, each by a different composer, including Howard Skempton and James MacMillan, all commissioned by the college. Organ works by Praetorius and Anton Heiller, and three Renaissance pieces (including Victoria's great eight-part Ave Maria) conducted by Phillips, complete a fine seasonal disc.
